Privacy Policy
1. What YKU is
YKU ("we", "the service") is a platform that helps international students discover and evaluate English-taught university programs in South Korea. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.
2. What we collect
- Waitlist email. If you join the waitlist, we store your email address and the date you joined.
- Correspondence. If you write to us, we keep your message and our reply.
- Your analytics choice. The consent decision you make in the on-site banner is stored in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
- Profile information you later provide. When the full platform opens, the academic details you enter (field, grades, budget, preferences) are stored to power your recommendations.
3. What we deliberately do not collect
- The fit-engine demo on our homepage runs entirely in your browser. Your selections are never transmitted, stored, or used for any purpose.
- Visit counts need your consent. A privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics script is loaded only after you opt in through the banner. It collects no personal data and sets no cookies. We never use advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies.
- Setup checklists stay on your device. The AI lead-routing page stores its editable checklist in your browser’s local storage, like the consent choice. It never leaves your device.
4. How we use your data
- To contact you about YKU: launch announcements and progress letters.
- To operate the service you signed up for: building your shortlist, timelines and checklists.
- To measure site traffic in aggregate: page counts and rough traffic sources, with no personal data attached.
- To improve the product, using aggregated or de-identified information where possible.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties except the service providers that operate the site and deliver our emails, bound by their own data-processing obligations.
5. Where the site is hosted
The site is hosted on Netlify, and waitlist form submissions are processed through Netlify's form handling. Those submissions are stored in our Netlify account and are covered by Netlify's data-processing terms. Visit-count analytics is served by Plausible or an equivalent cookieless provider (this page is updated if the provider changes); it receives only anonymous page-view data. Email delivery, once connected, will run through a dedicated email provider listed here before it is activated.
6. Retention
Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle your request. If the service shuts down, all personal data is deleted. Your analytics consent preference lives only in your browser and disappears when you clear site data.
7. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export, or delete your data at any time. Email hello@yku.app from the address you joined with, and we will act within 30 days. You can unsubscribe from any email with one click, without affecting your waitlist standing.
8. Children
The service is aimed at prospective university students. If you are under the age of digital consent in your country (typically 13 to 16, depending on jurisdiction), use YKU with a parent or guardian and do not send us personal data on your own initiative.
9. Changes to this policy
We will post any change on this page with an updated date. If a change materially affects data we already hold, we will email you before it takes effect.
